A couple weeks ago we went to Egypt. The home of the temples that honor my favorite ancient mythology. We flew into Giza, to go to the Pyramids at Giza. We saw the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Mykerinos. The pyramid of Khufu is the great pyramid and the other two the other pyramids. There are also a couple of smaller pyramids around the three big ones. We got to go inside the pyramid of Mykerinos where Dan sadly lost his blue and orange Cambodian scarf. The inside of the pyramid was super cool. We had to squeeze through a small tunnel leading underground where we got to see the sarcophagus. Sadly it was empty because grave robbing was common in the intermediate periods of ancient Egypt.
After Giza we flew to Luxor which was known as Thebes in ancient Egypt, and is now Luxor. In Luxor we went to the Valley of the Kings were we went to the tombs of Rames Ⅶ, Rames Ⅳ, Rames Ⅱ, Tutankhamun, and Seti Ⅰ. By far the coolest tomb was the tomb of Seti Ⅰ. The tomb of Seti Ⅰ was magnificent. The first bit was a tunnel sloping downwards, with beautiful carved hieroglyphics on the walls and on the ceiling there were paintings of stars with a deep blue surrounding it. Afterwards there is a small chamber to both sides that leads into an unfinished room with no paint or carvings, just the outlines of images. People think that that’s because Seti Ⅰ died sooner than his father Rames Ⅰ so the artists didn’t get a chance to finish it before the pharaoh died. If you continue forward on the main path you will find a series of chambers that used to be the burial chambers. Seti Ⅰ tomb is the biggest tomb in the whole valley of the kings.
We also went to the temples of Luxor and Karnak which were super cool. The biggest part of the two temples is the lotus and papyrus columns. Both temples also had a couple of obelisks
. Another thing about Karnak is that there were a bunch of insect carvings on the pillars. The two temples, Luxor and Karnak used to be connected by a line of sphinxes. Sadly most of them are gone but you can see some of them at Luxor.
In Luxor (the city, not the temple) we took a sunset boat ride along the Nile and it was super fun. It was just us there and the boat we got was great. She was called the Nile Palace. If anybody walking on the street offers you a boat ride on the Nile Palace you should accept it. Also one of the best restaurants we went to had the best falafel, It was so good. It was called _____ and I highly recommend it.
This is about it for this blog post, so bye.
